Question Free Search Engine Submission?

Hello.

I want to submit my website to as many FREE search enginess as possible.

I have done google already and yahoo (which needs an account)

Can someone give me a list of search engines that offer this FREE submission and have used it?

This is a site I found that lets you add it to 20 sites. Not sure if its a good thing or not? http://www.submitexpress.com/submit.html

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Matt

Don't forget MSN. After that there is only Ask.com which does not accept submissions. All of the other search engines are either powered by those four or get less then .00001% of the search market.

My advice, submit to the big three and that's all you need to do. The others aren't worth the time and effort (or even considering).

Submitting your website gets it a little bit of notice, but nothing much. All you've done is tell the SE's that it's there, but they will need a reason to think that it's worth going back to if you want to see it anywhere in the search results.

The best way to get sites found and indexed by SE's is to get links from pages that are already being indexed. That way the links to your site will be found and followed, and the more of these you get, the more chance you'll have of the SE's coming back again.

I didn't know there's any point in submitting your site to search engine, I thought you just make a site map and everything goes smooythly, google finds your site ...

Site maps are one of the more useful tools for getting the spiders to travel around your website. However, they don't bring the spiders there in the first place. Thats what links are for, as well as the submission process sometimes. Search engines can't index anything if they have no way of knowing that it's there.

submission works

I had success with selective submissions to a few hundred of directories.
When you start there is a vicious circle. The big SE will not consider you because no links, and you have no links because nobody finds you.
Many medium-size directories will break the circle.

This is useless, nowadays you do not need to go and submit your site on every SE, Get some back links to your web site and the SE will come to you.

I'd love to know what those 14 search engines are as there are only 4 major search engines and they power just about every other minor one out there.

Alexa is powered by MSN.

Jayde is a directory. Not a search engine.

Burf.com doesn't even work.

They don't even mention MSN or Yahoo! (That's very sad).

Nobody uses the other search engines listed in there besides Google. And I mean nobody.

I'd say this service is really awful.
