Free website promotions?
Hello,
I am a programmer looking to get his website out there in the world. Normally I wouldn't such an explicit statement on a web forum, but I am looking for your advice on how you as a website designer promote your website for the amount of...say, $0.00. Sounds cheap, but that's how all websites start. I have been working on optimizing my keywords to get my website on the search engines, but right now I'm stuck with a Google PageRank of 0 and would like to grow a little bit in the web world. What techniques and advice do you have for a techie that has a lot to learn in the business department? Thank you very much for your time. Nick Ruiz http://www.dealmerchant.net Webmaster, DBA (Also, I understand that my web design is a little drab right now, but I am days away from a new design.) |

How about using FFAs?
(Free For All link page) The algorithm of Google page rank raises the PR of a page if it is more linked to by other websites. You can add a link to your website to FFA link pages for free. If the bot visit the page and find the link to your website, your PR will be raised. http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/Link_Popularity/Free_For_All_Links

I am a beginner in the world of SEO, but from what I have read, it is NOT a good idea to use FFA links at all! I may be wrong, but im sure if you search around and read some articles you will find this to be true.

I heard that FFAs are not good too.
Then how about referrer log spamming? If you visit http://www.qindex.info/Q_frame.php?s_clss=stts_show , you will see [view the list of referrers] in the middle of the page. The page, http://www.qindex.info/Q_popup.php?...tts_list_rfrrrs , contains links to the referrers which contain links to my website. The Googlebot will visit the referrers and find links to my website. I hope the Gooblebot would raise my PR. |

I don't believe there is an easy way to promote your site for free. It will take a lot of work depending on the type of site you have and your competition.
That being said, I would recommed reading Basics of Search Engine Optimization and trying to follow all of the recommendations. To build links, I have found it easy to post replies to blogs that deal in with a similar topic. I don't mean comment spamming, but since most blogs allow you to post a link to your site, you are getting free promotions and links. Again, don't spam the site with your link. Become involved in the community of the site. This works on other types of site other than blogs. Forums typically allow you to post a site. This will get you started and hopefully some visitors coming to you site, and will not be the cure all. It will just get you started and most likely increase your google PR.

google has just recently introduced support for
PHP Code:
on links, this basically means that blogs and such (which suffer from all kinds of spam) use that attribute in their comment links, and the googlebot (along, without doubt, some others) won't follow it... therefore no gain from the post. Clean/Semantic code, good use of meta tags, legitimate linking, these will get you at least PR 4 without any great difficulties.
