full urls or short urls?

Is there any difference between full urls and short urls inside a site?

if what i'm thinking is correct, you mean simple urls versus dynamic (and possibly complex) urls.

search engines do have a tougher time with dynamic urls, especially really long complex ones. they can't spider them very well.

you can check out stuff on mod rewrites here.

Sorry I didn't ask clearly. What I meant was these two links:

http://www.mysite.com/myDirectory/index.htm

and

myDirectory/index.htm

Is there any preference over one of these two?

I believe that relative urls to css for example will cache, where absolute will not.
For SEO, don't think it really makes a difference, however there are advantages and disadvantages to both methods.

Absolute urls, http://www.mysite.com/myDirectory/index.htm, are less portable, so it if you move domains, then you have to change the urls, (unless this is generated dynamically).

Short urls, well can't think of any disadvantages at the moment, :-)
It is really personal preference I think, of course the short urls will make your page size less, as there is less text.

People can copy your site more easily with short URLs - I've had it happen to me! They do cut down on page size though where you have lots of links.
