Send a message via Yahoo to softcell
Was it a new site?

Please tell how old was your site and if possible also the url and the keyword for which it was ranking at no 2.

The site is about a week old, if that.
The url is www.trowbridge-wiltshire.co.uk

And it came up as number two when i searched "trowbridge wiltshire".

Cheers

Lots of problems....

If you were looking for an neatness award for your scripts, you'd maybe be OK with this index.

There's really nothing there that would interest a bot.

Quote:
<TR>
<TD ALIGN="CENTER" STYLE="cursor:hand; border: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: #4B7BD3; background-color:#87B4EB" ONCLICK="window.location='shops.php'" ONMOUSEOVER="this.style.backgroundColor='#4B7BD3'" ONMOUSEOUT="this.style.backgroundColor='#87B4EB'"><A style="text-decoration:none; color:white;" HREF="shops.php">Shops</a></TD>
</TR>

Where's the informative text? Content? Links? There's nothing here that the bots can use.

Get some full urls happening along with text describing what the links are. Even if you have to hide them from human eyes, make sure it's there for the bots to see.

And get some meta tags You have some but again, neatness doesn't count here.

Here, use this http://wenpigsfly.org/test2/onlytag/index.php

Your metatags look better but I would still use some full urls or hidden links for the bots.

All they're seeing is a short relative path in your index.

Use a clear pixel link with the full url to any links and you'll have a lot more results.

eg:
Code:
<a href="http://wenpigsfly.org/ss/games/hangman/index.html" target="_blank"><img src="clearpixel.gif" width="1" height="1" border="0"></a>

Put something like this after each link in your index. Human eyes won't see it but the bot's will pick it up as a legitimate link and it should show up on the next crawl. You can also add a small amount of text in the alt field to serve as meta data for the link. Just don't over do it.

Both! The more you have, the better googlebot likes it.

Any links should be full paths / full urls for the sake of the bots.
To your site, from your site, internal links, external links, the more information you give, the more information google will archive!

In effect, you create your own link exchange within your portfolio of sites and pump that for what it's worth.

If google doesn't like your main page, it might take a strange liking to some other link on your site. Use that to your advantage by interweaving all the Full links you can.

There's no way you're going to top the gov of that area.

The lawyers probably paid for their position so not much you can do there either.

I had a look at your metatags and they are better but still a little sparse.
In your keywords, try some more combinations.
You missed this one ", trowbridge wiltshire," The most important!

Pack those metatags with all the info you have. They'll get more attention that the content on your page will where the bots are concerned. Remember the bots are not human. What you think would really interest someone and keep them coming back, will not interest a bot in the slightest!
Sad but true.
