Google Ads in Analytics?
Hi all,
I've been a customer of the adwords program for quite some time now and have been using Google Analytics for about three months in combination with that. I use Analytics for websites that I need to Optimize and it seemed a handy tool so far. So far.. In addition to Google Analytics I also use Webalizer which I find easier to navigate etc, but something has struck my sight while comparing the two. In the referrers tab in Analytics Google shows "google" top be my #1 top referer. Yet in webalizer MSN holds a share of 50% over Google. I know that Analytics works with JavaScript but I find it hard to believe that the 50% that are missing from Analytics have JavaScript disabled in their browser, especially if they're coming from MSN. In Analytics, MSN doesn't even hold my top list in referers. Another thing that I found is that in referers the adwords.google.com keeps showing up as a good source for hits. Yet the script that I've bound my adwords program to has only recorded 2% of the traffic reported by Google. Hm. Since I have a dedicated server, I can easily check the log files that Apache makes. So I did and they confirm that MSN is my #1 refering source. Could this be a "scheme" by Google to make Google appear like the #1 search engine around or am I just paranoid?

Could be...
As you may remember Google changed the number of indexed pages the same week MSN Search started...

Just a little follow up on this matter. The stats changed a couple of days after I made this post which -logicaly- is impossible, but it did. If you're interested, read my post at my blog about it.
