Google Problem

I was wondering why google only puts my url in the search results, i.e. I search for my site example.com and the result that comes back is a few sites linking to it (just under a 100 results). And the result for my actual page is miles down the list and has no description it's just a url.

Where as MSN puts my site top of the list when I search for it i.e. example.com and gives it a description.

What am I doing wrong?

Well, first guess is that while google knows of your site because some other page it indexed linked to it, it hasn't fully indexed your site yet. Check your logs and see if googlebot appears anywhere.

Second guess is that it's a penalty, for duplicate content (or what it perceives as such) or the like. The first is more likely the answer.

Try using the Google toolbar to show "Cached snapshot of page". My guess is that although Google is aware of your site it hasnt indexed it yet. The only way to resolve that is get more links - or just wait.

It's now up to 394 results of my site name, but yet no index of my pages, I've given it almost 4 months now. Is there anyway to find out if google dis likes your site?

if the content of those pages are similar, it'll take a long time to get indexed.

Well they all look the same, i.e. they all have the same layout but the content and menus are different on every page, I've now even put a news update on the front page, using the news from other section of my site to see if that helps.
