Web development can be a daunting task, even for specialists. There is a lot of information to absorb and a lot of technologies to learn in order to manage a superior website. When trying to learn the ropes, developers need a reliable source to introduce new ideas that can be easily implemented. When working on large projects, even web veterans may run into a technology or an aspect of a technology that they are unfamiliar with.
I think I basically view links in this sense:- the more links to my site the better, and the more links from a higher page rank site the better. I dont really see them as "google links" or "yahoo links".
So, How does a Google Link differ to a Yahoo link? (apart from the blindingly obvious answer of saying 'ones from google and ones from yahoo')
I think the reason I ask is that I can easily find my site on Google searches, but never on Yahoo searches. Yet it appears I have no "google links" and do have Yahoo links.

Hi,
where did you get those figures from? Alexa?
I wouldnt consider alexa to be very representative as it is based on searchs made through its own toolbar (AFAIK).
Page rank is googles way of ranking so having a high page rank is really a google thing. If your not coming up on yahoo's search then you should have a look at yahoo's method of crawling & optimize your site with that in mind. Adding your site to the yahoo directory woulnt hurt either. Have a look at SEOchat for lots more information on SEO in general.

Hi LostSoul,
I think you mean link popularity from the various search engines.
Take a look at the tool:
http://www.selfseo.com/link_popularity_checker.php
This tool output the number of links to your site from the search engines. You are right, the more links you have in the search engine index, the greater the chance people will find your site.
One additional note, Google does not show the total of inbound links. At this point of time, you may find some traffic directed from Google but you may also find the 'link:' operator in Google returns zero results. You may want to use Yahoo or MSN for a more detailed list of backlinks

Yes, as long as your signature can be seen by the bots, it will be indexed. However, some forums disable the general users to see the members' signature..this will make the bots index the content only.

I don't think so. You can verify by logging off your account and read the forum as a general user. If you can see the member's signature, then it will be indexed
