I know H1 and H2 tags are very important for SEO purpose.

But I am trying to understand that how many H1 and H2 tags are sufficient for good SEO.

H1 can be highly restricted to 2 or 3 since it determines the content of the page, whereas too much of H1 tags may dilute the keyword concentration in the h1 tags.
H2 can be used depending on the requirement of sub headings required in the page.
It may be much more in number when compared to h1

As per the SEO guidelines ( as experts says on various forums) you should strictly use one H1 per page and may use any number of H2 tags (but still limit them to 5-6 per page)

H1 tags are usually used for headings, so it is best to limit it to one. It is important to remember that H1, H2 tags are supporting factors, if your overall page doesn't support the keywords in the H1,H2 tags it can be seeing as keyword spamming.

I would use a few more for a home page if it is necessary, however would try to limit it to 1 on the other pages.

H1 to H6 if you have enough text, and if

you have enough points to make.
Having a lot of text is always good,
and the headers must make it better readable -
if so, it´s organic and organic is the parole of the day.

You have to keep in mind the following points about H1 and H2 tags :
    * You can utilize your Main keyword in H1 tag [with or without extra words].
    * You can use the “Keyword” at first.
    * You can utilize H2 tags to break down the main topic: Use questions like “How to effectively use Header tags:” or synonyms like “Overuse of H1 html tags”

    H1 & H2 Tags

There should be 1 H1 TAG Targetting the most important or relevant keyword to that particular page.

2 or more H2 tags can be used making the proper use of primary targetted keyword and other secondary keywords.

As per my opinion you can add more than one h1 but I am also confused about H2 tag.

I think use 1 H1 tag per page as the introduction to the page and use H2 tags for the main paragraphs.

I would say one h1 tag per page is sufficient.

yes Mike, that makes sense, everyone always follow SEO structure that H1 tag only once in single page and H2 tag depend upon the subheading of paras.

Totally depends on the content and page size.
