Hosting websites in a country different to the user's locality
Hello all!
I am designer in the UK. For the last two years I have been hosting all of my websites in the US. All of my site's and my clients' are hosted on this server with a 209.85.xxx.xxx IP address. Firstly, I wondered if this would in anyway hinder my SEO efforts, optimising for Google UK/Yahoo! UK? I am thinking about moving from this American server to an Australian server. So, secondly, is there any danger that changing servers (thus IP addresses) will hurt my rankings? Thirdly, in general, does Google and other SEs favour websites that are hosted in the same country as the searching user? Thanks a thousand times in advance. Harry ![]() |

I think instead of migrating to Australian server you should move to UK server.

yes if your market is uk than u should move to uk server, it will more help as per SEO point of view. and as u told all your site is hosted on same class IP than it wont affect the ranking but one thing is there, if u interlinking those sites it wont give any weight for those links.

SEO optimization and postion in the search results have nothing to do with the location of your web host... or at least has very little ...

When it comes to SEO, it definitely affects where your host/servers located at.
As coming from the hosting background, I would suggest you to get your sites hosted in the location your targeted traffic is. In your case if you move to UK instead of AUS, it would make much greater impact on your seo efforts. ATB |
