how many links??
Hi,
quick question; how many inbound links does it take to boost pagerank? it's tough to get outside companies to link to us, and gathering links has been a slow process. thanks, |

It varies... it mostly depends on how strong sites linking to you are. If you get 10 sites with PR7 it will be a lot stronger than 10 sites with PR4. It also depends what PR your site has right now... the higher PR you get the harder it is to move up another PR (meaning if you are at a PR 5 it is harder to move to a PR6 than from a PR4 to a PR5)... Make sense?

A listing in the DMOZ directory usually helps out a lot with page rank... You may want to submit your site there. You are allowed 2 directory listings in DMOZ, one for your business and one local (where your business is located).

more inbound links with higher PR means better PR for yr site but its not the only things . make sure all other basic's are fixed too.

To get off PR 1 I would start with the easy option of link exchanges. Create a links page and swap links with other sites, even if they are not directly relevant. I find the easiest way to find link partners is to search Google for TOPIC add url, replacing TOPIC with a keyword that relates to your site.
It should only take a few links to get up to PR 3. Above that it is more important to get relevant links, so I would target more specifically and make sure you only link to good sites. Bad sites (inc those with PR 0) will hurt your own ranking. In addition internal linking adds to your PR too, so make sure you have a menu that links to your home page and site map from every other page. The footer is a good place to put this if you don't want to change site design much. I hope that helps.

Get rid of the frames. Try using CSS for the layout, it will really make your site much more SE friendly.
