this should be under 'search engine optimization', but anyways;
lots of fresh, relevent content,
optimize keywords and title,
obtain backlinks from relevent websites (the higher the pagerank of the site linking to you the better),
and wait.

it takes a while to get up there in google. lots of work too.

hope that helps!

Build your link popularity by exchanging your links with those sites which got good PR and the number of existing links on the page is not more than 40-50 and the site has got related content as yours. Submit to Directories.

It's harder for a new site to exchange links with other sites. Submit a site to some free directories will get a new site indexed pretty soon.

Google uses a complex system to determine whose gonna be at the top, that includes page loading time, content, how many sites are backlinking to you, and overall their quality and even much more. You should check with your site and implement changes and update it at the point of google view also.

Best thing is to focus on contents and users without trying to push so much on search engines. Select keywords for each page. Make sure they appear atleast 1 time in the page contents. If you want a tool to count the appearance of words in each webpage, you can PM to me. I can send you a link. I am not sure it is ok to direct you to links in this forum.

Yes real content.

I have a site with over 300 pages of content that I started a few months ago to promote art and music events in my area. I archive every event with photos, etc which I think helps because it leaves tons of key words in and if someone searches for an old event they will come a page where they can see what is coming up.

I was number one on Google for 3 weeks and then things "balanced out" (Now I'm usually around number 4, under the city and two main newspapers, but I'm still on the first page of most popular searches (even still number one for lots of things)

Meta keywords do help, but don't go over board on those, but I do see Google taking from those.

Use Alt tags on every image and "good code"
http://validator.w3.org

Also Google doesn't recrawl pages and reindex pages every day, it takes weeks, so keep trying and don't do link ups with spammy pages, that will hurt you.

Good Luck.

If you do a considerable amount of changes to your homepage everyday you'll get Google to check your site every day and new pages will be added, if you add new content Google will figure it out and deep crawl more often.

Post Sitemap programs of Google and Yahoo

1. Write correct syntax of HTML and Javascript and try to put less images.
2. Don't create empty robot file. Or don't create it at all. Otherwise there are chances that google may leave your site without crawling.
3. Submit sitemap to google and yahoo. (see http://rajputyh.blogspot.com/2005_0...yh_archive.html for general details about sitemap programs). This is not part of SEO but it's good to do it.

Pez,
You need Google's robot to crawl your site. Faster way to do this is to register with Google's AdSense. Their robots will then crawl your web quicker.
