Can I get some ideas how to promote a new non profit website?

( so far all services are free to generate a desent traffic...)
It targets the people of canada; auto-dealers, regular people who look to sell/buy cars and so on..

Do link exchanges with similar sites. Write articles for people. Put a link to the site in signature on message boards. And MANUALLY submit your site to the major search engines. Automatic search engine submitters are a no-no.

i would work on some SEO. Search SEO Doctor on google for a fairly good site. (switched to fedora and lost my book marks... )

you can use many Internet channels to promote your site, SEO, pay per click (such as adwords and overture), email, press realease and etc. The first step is definitely to get into Google and ranked higher.
