There is no such thing as "in depth" techniques. SEO is just a few basic principles that help you get the best ranking you can in the SERPs.

There are two areas to consider:

1) On page factors. That post you referred to covers that fairly well. Use proper semantic markup and good internal linking structure.

2) Off page factors. This basically covers getting links to their site and that is basic, too. They will need to get high quality, relevant, one way links to their pages. How do they do that? With high quality, unique content. Links from directories, article sites, toplists, etc. are virtually worthless. If someone wants to rank well for any kind of a competitive term they will need to get quality links. What are quality links? Links from sites that are on topic and rank well for the terms they want to rank well for. How do get those links? Not with crappy content. They will only link to sites they think will enhance their users' experience. What do they think will do this? Unique quality content. They won't link to garbage or content poorly written or offering nothing new.

If you're looking for tricks, gimmicks, and tools then you've been misled as to how SEO works. There are no tricks. Their are no gimmicks. There are no quick fixes. Many people like to think that but that's because they're lazy. Your job in doing SEO for your client is to make sure their on page factors are optimized and then coach them to create good content that will attract the kind of links they need to rank well. Part of this coaching is to inform them good rankings take time and do not happen overnight.

Once again, there are no shortcuts or techniques to SEO. It's all about a well designed site (I mean semantically and structurally) and quality content. And it never happens overnight (for anything worth ranking well for).

Prediction: this thread will not be filled with useless "tips", "tricks", "techniques", and "gimmicks" like, "Submit to as many directories as you can" and, "Do article submissions", and "try social networking".

There are some tough phrases to rank well for. You definitely won't be able to guarantee they'll ever rank top ten for those phrases. In fact I would bet against it. Make sure they understand that.

Then tell them to write come good content targeting those phrases. There's no way you can rank well for those terms by just doing on page SEO and getting links from directories and such. If they want to rank well they'll need to work for it. The burden is on them, not you.

Other than me telling them what to do, what else is my job? Like do I just teach them? I don't have to do any work by hand by myself?

Also, lets say a client had a website with alot of page. In the last example, they have less than 10 pages. What if the client had over 50 pages. How would I perform SEO for that?

Also when a client says the following, what does it mean? I don't know what they are talking about
Quote:
I need links
about 100-200 links to my site
it is a gardening /hydroponics site

If you're asking these sorts of questions you are in WAY over your head here.

Inbound linking is about the simplest, most popular and widely known about SEO method that's around. What the client wants there is 100-200 good inbound links from other websites to their website. This is still not as easy as it sounds. Do they need the links to be relevant? On index pages? On home pages? Page PR? Do directories count? And that's just a small sample of the questions for that one little job. To know more, there's a lot of resources out there. You're probably best of trying www.seochat.com and spending a while (try months) reading and learning.

I hope this will help. I often read about cooperation between seo and web design, and even hosting companies who send clients to each other. Why not consider finding a partner for it?

Your job is to do on page SEO and teach them how to write content and promote their site from an SEO perspective.

Quantity of pages is irrelevant.

Your client thinks getting a certain number of links will make them rank well. They are misinformed. You will need to make sure they understand how it works and help them set realistic expectations and goals.

I have some simple little questions to ask.

1. Updating a site. What if the site is a small software site and there is nothing really to update. What to do then if I want good ranking?

2. For when using the alt tags for images, should I just fill it up with key words or should I write a description?

3. I am not really sure how to use the h1, h2, etc tags. I mean I know what they are and like search engines put a great emphasis on it. But I don't really know when to use these heading tags with the type of website I am currently doing SEO on.

4. If the meta keywords, would it make a difference if I put "password, reset" instead of "password reset"? Like what I am trying to ask is in the meta keywords, should I put phrases or words?

5. Is it considered black hat if you put keywords in comment lines?

Tell them to keep adding quality content to it. Sites that stagnate also stagnate in the rankings. They'll need quality links to rank well. If they want to keep getting quality links they'll need to give people a reason to link to them. They should add a blog, articles, or white papers to their site and keep them updated and add new one periodically.

Use alt attributes for what they are intended for: providing a description of the image so users who can't see the images know what the image is portraying. Alt attributes have virtually no value in SEO thanks to keywords stuffing so it is pointless to abuse them anyway.

Their site may not be structured to use headings. If possible, restructure the site to make sse of them without forcing the issue. That only makes it worse. But if you can't that's ok. Headings are not that important and if they don't have them it won't hurt them.

Doesn't matter. That won't help their rankings. Meta tags are dead. They aren't used by the search engines any more and will not affect their ranings.

It's considered a complete waste of time. It doesn't help your SEO. Comments are not read by anyone except webmasters.

Your best bet is to post any questions you have here so others can help you too. Plus it will allow others to learn with you.

I am currently doing SEO for a client whose website is
Code:
www.password-reset.com

For my title tag I put the follwoing

Code:
<title>Password-Reset- Reset Windows Password, Windows XP Password Reset,
Reset Administrator Password, Reset XP Password</title>

But a person knowing alot of SEO suggested me to use the follwoing.

Code:
<title>Password Reset: Reset, Windows, XP, Administrator, Password -
www.password-reset.com</title>
.

He told me, thats his take on it. But I should expeirement. But I am not sure. Which title tag should I use? Should I use mine or his?
