If you must use duplicate content ...,
If you must use duplicate content, is there something (s) you should/need to do to get ok SEO performance? I'm not talking about making a copy of the website, but I'm talking about stuff like putting content provided by affiliate program (which is essentially a duplicate).

two pages are considered duplicate content if they're 85% or more identical. header, footer and navbar text can usually make up 20% difference.

Q1. Does Google, Yahoo or MSN actually suggest this number 85% specifically?
Q2. What if the page content is big? It has a lot of text and it makes up 90% or 95% of the page even. Is the page a duplicate now? |

Quote:
If you are using duplicate content for a legitimate reason (e.g. to create a printable version of a page) put the duplicate pages into the robots.txt file. That way it won't be indexed so you won't receive any duplicate content penalty. If you dont know how to use the robots.txt file see the other articles on DevShed. They explain how to edit it. |
