Incoming Links Not Showing

I am currently working on a website for a client, the site has got a few links pointing to it which have been established a while back and are still there.

However when looking on Google to check to see how many links are incoming and who they are from etc the list comes up with none found.

Anyone know why this is?

Are you using the google backlinks to check? If so, then you will often find no links at all. The backlinks feature is unreliable and only displays a small number of your inbound links, or sometimes none at all. A more reliable way is to search on "www.yoursitename.com", with the inverted commas. That will show everywhere your site appears as a URL, though not if you use different linking text.

I have many hundreds of inbound links to my main site, but Google backlinks shows only about 20 of them.

Ultimately the best way to check is to install Google analytics on your site and watch where the inbound traffic comes from. That is more valuable than just knowing where the links are because you may well find a few surprises. You may find some links that generate good traffic when you thought they were dead and buried - and vice versa.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

thanks for your help, appreciate it.

Yes I think I will just use the google analytics, a lot of people have been saying about it.

Thanks again.
