Incorrect Page Indexed
Greetings,
So I'm relatively inexperienced when it comes to web development for a business. I've run personal pages before, where it's never mattered how my page ranks on search engines. But when I'm trying to draw in more visitors, it actually becomes an issue, and as such, I've had to learn alot. After quite awhile, my page has finally been indexed by both yahoo and google. On google, however, the "wrong" page has been indexed. Google points to my "location.htm" file in results, rather than my "index.htm". Now, I can understand why. The main page to a human visitor is a large graphic with essential information, and provides a good introduction. To googlebot, however, it's just an image, whereas "location.htm" has actual text. I don't have links from any other sites at the moment, so how can I fix this without changing my content? Can I? EDIT: The site in question is Blue Mountain Martial Arts if actually viewing it helps. Thanks. |

I don't think url rewriting is the best option.
I mean you don't want people to got to the location page as their landing page do you? I gather you would prefer Google to point to your main page instead. I'm afraid that I don't know much about SEO. However DevShed has a sister site called SEO chat. The folks over there may be able to explain better how this has happened and how to fix it. Your main page does have some text on it. At the bottom of the page. I have had pages come up on google with very little text on the main page before. Although I think I used meta tags to generate the page description.

The site is very recent, so I think if you wait a little longer and make some links to the index page it will be indexed,
you have alt tags and meta tags although I think you use too many keywords on keywords meta tag, so I dont see why the page can't be indexed. |

create a sitemap (sitemap.xml) and submit it to Google...you can also track Google's crawler with their "webmaster's tools"

Yes, I have made extensive use of google's webmaster tools. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
