in general this is a good thing, but sometimes it is very bad:
it all depends on one thing: is your site search engine freindly?
if it is, AND you just have a high volume of content (more then 500 pages - 500 words of unique content per page or more).. it is just google indexing more and more of your site. also check out how many pages have link backs to your site - if there are alot this can also be a reason why you are heavily indexed. The bot loves your site in this case and is just hanging out here to make sure it misses nothing new.
Now if you have few hard links, any number of "dead links", bad meta tags, unrelated content, or a slow server, or server crashes - this is a bad thing and the spider is busy trying to make sense of your POS site.
