Keyword placement
Hi
Am not thick but can be slightly dense especialy when it comes to this. Can you please comment on this advising or kicking my butt where apropriate. I have a box of keywords and with them I should : 1. add them to my <meta http-equiv="keywords" content= (HOW MANY IS GOOD ? ) 2. use them in content but not repeatedly (WHETHER STUFFING IS A REALITY OR NOT KEEP THEM TO 5% ? ) 3. use them for internal links ( THESE KEYWORDS DO NOT QUALIFY UNDER THE STUFFING THEORY ?) 4. use best KW together with url in page title ( HOW MANY TOTAL WORDS ARE GOOD FOR PAGE TITLE ?) 5. alt tags - are they used by spiders or aid seo if so should keywords be used ? 6 incoming links - is there any advantage to hyphenating your url eg www.orange-pretty-cat and using it in your incoming links ? 7. use keywords in headings (HOW MANY TOTAL WORDS IS GOOD ?) 8 when you have google results they show - hyperlink in blue which is your page title - next your page H1 text in black - then site url in green ( IS THIS CORRECT ?) 9. if at all you can be penalised for too many KW in your content but not anywhere else is this correct ? 10. If you were able would it be of benefit to have differing KW in llink text for the same url on your sit pages eg href="http://www.pa*ge1.coml">orange pretty cats</a> href="http://www.pa*ge1.coml">bright orange pretty cats</a> I think this could be really beneficial not just to me but to others as it can answer some of the really basic questions all at one place. Thanks tiler DID I MISS ANYTHING ?????? |

1) I have read no more than 250 characters because the bots may ignore them if longer. (Not 100% sure if that is true)
2) I try not to think of the keywords as keywords. Think of them as phrases. Most people do not type in one word as a search so separate your keywords as phrases... For example "credit report, credit score" and not "credit, report, score" 4) No more than 90 Characters and do not use your sitename |

OK, lets see if I can help here...
1. Stick to about 5 or 6 phrases in the keywords section, that's enough to get your message accross. 2. Keyword density doesn't do much, if anything at all, but you need to have the keywords on there mainly so people will see them more then robots and spiders. 3. Yes!! You should always try and use relevant keywords for internal linking. Linking with the link text "Buy Blue Widgets" will always be better then "Go To Store". 4. Make the page title ONE phrase that reads well to humans, and include keywords where possible without reading badly. 5. ALT tags are useful mainly for image searches and for visitors that don't download images. They do help with keywords, but it's more about usability. 6 The best URL to use is the smallest and most easily memorable one. Dashs are suppsoed to be slightly (almost not) better as far as serch positions go, but a memorable oen will get visitors coming back. 7. Headings are the same as page titles. Keep it to one phrase and easily readable. 8 Google doesn't always use the H1 or page title from your page. There's a few different things that Google uses including DMOZ listing and more, so there's no guarantee there. It is usually the H1 or main text, but not all the time. 9. Don't over-stuff keywords in the page. Keep the text READABLE for humans. That's all yo uneed to remember. 10. Using different anchor text for external links is good practice because it makes the links ook more natural. Still keep the keywords in there, but mix them up a bit. OK, hopefully that's helped a little. Anyone have anything else to add? |
