Linking back to my website.....

Hi folks.

Again, I'm not 100% sure about all this SEO stuff but here goes.

I've got a website which is doing well on Google - not down to any super-dooper coding but just an increasingly popular product. However, I've just made another website (which ranks poor) and I want to use my popular website to help increase its' ranking. The trouble is, both websites have nothing to do with one another and aren't related (business wise) in any way.

Here's my question:
I've read that links back from reputable sites help you out with rankings. Is there any way I can put 'dead links' on my reputable website, which point back to my not-so-great website? These links could be, for example, hidden or not clickable. Would this work or is this defeating the whole purpose of having link-backs?? I'm not sure if the link backs are used just for googlebot to crawl, or for people to click and be redirected to your site.

Thanks.

The only thing, that the sites will do for each other will be, that they will share their PageRank, but Google gives a lot of attention to that, how many keywords are in the page wich is sharing it's PageRank. So link will help (but not as much as you think), but don't hide links in a way, that you'll have white link in a white background ... if Google notice this ...

You can give a link in a footer, and name it with a keyword ...

Submit your pages to directories ... that way they'll recive much more back-links.

Hi Captain Planet.

Don't try stuff that you wouln't like to see on other people's websites such as links you can't click. It's most likely that Google will punish you for this kind of stuff. Please don't use hidden text etc. Make your site worth browsing. Optimize your content, and make it easy to navigate for both humans and spiders, but with people in mind mostly.
I suggest reading a book such as "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies" -no pun intended- to get you started off on your quest for PageRank/SERPs. Please don't do stuff that we both would regret later.

what is your website about ?

does it link to other websites that have the same products or service that you have?

keywords are important, try to have a main keywords and sub keywords..

example :

heading --> kichten cookbooks for busy people

sub heading --> learn to cook any meal in 15 mins

links title ---> breakfast cookbook meals

Add a blog to your website, this will give freash content...

Dont just to try get traffic from search enignes only...

Use ads to get people to visit your website like online ads or offline ads...

Get a news letter on your website, offer something free like a ebook or someting, then use that as a to get people to revisit your website, by using the blog to write your newsletter...

Yes, this sounds like marketing, but it does work...

The flaw here is that by adding these dead links to your "good" website you will degrade its value in Google. Google will look at the site you're linking to, realise its poor and therefore lower the value of the site doing the linking.
