Link Exchange Help
I am really confused about how to find people that are willing to exchange links with me. Not only that, how do I get non recorpical links. Basically, how can I get my site out there for FREE? It doens't matter if it is recorpical or nonrecoprical.
The site I am doing for the client that I am trying to find links for is for a software that resets Windows password. |

It's not to hard. It goes like this....
1. Search for related websites 2. Send a message to the webmaster and ask for a link form them. You can offer a reciprocal if you like. 3. Sit back and see how many responses you get. It takes a lot of time and effort to get links like that. There's automated programs that can do the same thing, but they are mostly to be avoided as they are pretty indiscriminant and can hurt you. One thing, don't get angry with a webmaster for not responding to your messages or declining your requests. Take it from me, when you get an abusive second message it makes you a whole lot less likely to exchange any links in the future. |

You could try writing some articles on the subject. There are plenty of sites that allows you to sign-up and post your article.
Within your article you create backlinks to your site or in some article sites within the bio. Here's an example article which I wrote about SEO some time ago to give you a better feel for article writing. Once you then have created your article - you submit it to as many articles sites as possible, place it in your blog if you have one and also submit it to social bookmarking sites such as digg, de.licio.us, furl etc... If its any good then people will either link to your article or even better still publish it within their own blogs with the links back to your site still intact. Hope this helps. |

search google for relevant sites
You will find lots of sites if you search google which are related to your subject. Try to find sites which provide a list of windows resources sites. Write few aritcles related to your subject and add them to your site first then submit them to aritcle sites like ezinearticles.com, ideamarketers.com etc. Use press release sites like prweb. Find directories related to your subject( you will find many if you spend time on it) which will provide your site a listing.

I emailed a handful of webmasters requesting a link exchange but none of them reply.
Also, which websites do I submit articles to? Can you give me some good ones? Also, I tried the social bookmarking sites such as furl, delecious, digg...But I am trying to figure out one thing. I want to add small buttons for dig, delecious, etc. on my site so users can click that button and it automatically adds my site. But I don't know how to do this |

1. Contact only those webmasters who have placed links for other websites. Response for link exchange is never 100% even if you contact only those sites which are exchanging links. It will be at most 15%.
2. Ezinearticles.com and ideamarketers.com are two sites you can check for aritcle submission. 3. For creating buttons for diggs and del.io.us please click on the links at the top of this page and see the URL where it goes. This is simple. |

Yep alongside many bad domains that'll get your site penalized in an instant -- think quality links not quantity. |

I use a service called gotlinks.com. It seems very good - but who knows. Maybe Google do penalise it. I think its worth the risk. Have a look.

Personally requesting links is really the only tried and true method of building backlinks.
Like pws1970 said, think QUALITY over QUANTITY. One link with a PR of 5 is better than 15 links with a PR of 1. You will need to send hundreds of requests to webmasters before you start seeing the results you're after.
