You would find such information in forums that deal specifically with SEO matters.
However, if SEO is your goal, don't bother with link exchanges. As far as I know, the major search engines have already completely disqualified reciprocal links from influencing search results. In other words, if, say, Google finds a link from SiteA to your site, and Google also finds a link FROM your site to SiteA, Google will not increase your PageRank (i.e. raise your position in search listings). So don't waste your time. Getting one-way links TO your site is the best way to increase your site's PageRank (PR). At the moment, many webmasters go through lists of directories and submit their sites to these directories hoping their PR will increase. However, there is already talk of the search engines disqualifying directory links too. Such links are easy to get and, therefore, pretty meaningless. So . . I wouldn't waste my time on directory submission either. Instead, focus on building a good website: clean, effective, works in all browsers, and has good content. Then spread the word among friends and associates. Include the URL in your signature of all e-mails. If your site is good, and has something unique to offer, people will find it. And if the site you are designing is for a company, start an Adsense account; it is probably one of the best ways to get TARGETTED traffic to your site. Regards, David |

some good advise there David. Agree with most of what you said..
I have found in some cases where the URL has been in the signature block of emails and it has weighted as spam on some mail servers so you need to be a little careful with that.. |

You still want to list with as many directiories as you can. While it may not increase you PR, it will increase the ability for users to find your site. And that's what you want, no?
