Links exchange & other fun stuff

I'm a little new to the new style of promoting websites, back in the day all I used was headers and META tags.
Now I am looking at all sorts of links exchange places and wondering if they work?
if so could anyone direct me to any of them?

I have sumbitted to the major engines ut the lady I designed a site for has chosen the most difficult form of website to promote. It is a sex toy site.

Woe is me.

Thanks in advance

It is rather hard to help if the site doesn't exist.

As for link exchange programs. I don't think they work. Unless they are targeted directly to your site. Though it is true that the more links to your site the better, I have never had any luck with the link exchanges. Honestly, the best way to get links is to have visitors that like the site so much, they link to it. That is rather hard to acheive if you don't have a lot of traffic. It sounds like the site is new, and sense it is not up, I am guess no one has linked to it yet. Might want to work on getting it online, then maybe someone here could be of more help.

Thanks for your help guys.
Sorry the site was down - the host decided it wanted to change the DNS info.
