listed but not indexed (?)

Hi all,

I've been trying to get my web site indexed (I think that's the proper term) by Google for quite some time now. When I search for the url at Google, it comes up, but there is no content associated with it. It's just a listing of the url. It's been this way for several months. One problem is a lack of links. I have a few links to it (from another of my web sites as well as from my department/university pages), but not a lot. I've submitted the url to Google as well as many other places (Yahoo, dmoz, etc, etc, etc) but so far I've met with limited (or no) success.

The url is: http://www.theburkelab.org/

Thanks.

John

Your site has been indexed by Google - which means it has been found an added to their database. It comes up with a PR0 (zero) which means Google has attached a rating of nil to your site in terms of relevance and has ranked you accordingly. Harsh but that's how their algorithm seems to work. I can see no backlinks to your site on Google, Altavista or Hotbot. The trick is to get 1-2 backlinks from legit websites with a PR of 4 or 5 and you'll soon see positive results

Possibly dumb question, but how do you determine the PR of a site?

Just checked my site stats, and the GoogleBot visited yesterday. It only visited one page (presumably the top-level index page). Hopefully this will translate into indexing. Just checked Google, and nothing has changed (still just my url, no text from the site). How soon after a visit can I expect them to have my site indexed? Thanks again,

Take Tony's suggestion or download the Google Toolbar (PC/IE only)

Tony's link works fine. I don't use a PC (or IE, for that matter) so the Toolbar won't help. Thanks!

Okay, the front page is now indexed... It's actually picked up this thread, as well, so posting my url here may have helped at least a little! Still PR0.

The Page Rank indicators take a long time to update, you won't see any change in that for weeks or months. However, getting links to your site does help you get a better ranking very quickly, even if the visible PR hasn't changed.

As it told at the above - Google Ranking mainly based of Backlinks in count , quality + the keyword that in the BL title...

How many ways to google find your site as you crawled and indexed more deeply + frequently.
If google find your site from a page or 10, then it thinks your site is very poor.

If your site found by google from many other sites - something like from 1000+ pages then google think that your site have favor on the net and it thinks that your site have sme important content thats usefull for google searchers since alotof referrers you have.

The basics of Google idea is this ofcourse its more deeply and much more specific properties but it is too long to tell you and deeper specific knowledges are open speculative + changing at every update.
