Old site + New site - quick question

I have an old site that is well established with the search engines, my site stats show it is regularly crawled by all the bots.

I am now building a brand new, completely unrelated website on a different domain. Will putting links to the new site on my old site help the search bots find and index the new site faster?

Thanks,

Ez

P.s.

If I make the link text same color as page background color so visitors can't see it but the bots can, would that be a problem? Do the bots know somehow when you do this and think you're trying to "cheat"?

Hi putting a link on your old website will help a little, with both indexing and more web user traffic. DO NOT put the links the same colour as the background. The Search Engine Bots are not stupid, in doing this is a good way to get your old site banned from the google index as it thinks your trying to spam link.

I'm surprised the bots would know about the color thing, but will definitley not do that. Thanks a bunch!

You can use colours close to each other on the colour chart, this might not be visible to humans but the bots will think of it as completely different colours

Some of the smaller ones will, but not all. Google especially is getting pretty good on the color matching for text and background colors.

The biggest rule is, don't hide anything. If you stick to that you won't have a problem like this. It's only when you start trying to "trick" (and yes, these sorts of things are seen as black-hat stuff) the bots into following links that humans wont or cant see, that you get into trouble.

Definitely put a few links to the new site, but dont overdo the number (1-2 from the home page is enough) and definitely dont use the same colour / similar colour / small font or anything that will make the bots think they are not genuine links.

As a basic rule if the links dont look good and natural to your users then watch out. Its not worth getting penalties for!
