Optimization 101

If I have to make a site for a local apple farm, would it make sense to make the domain name something like: "www.applesinmichigan.com"? What about then writing some good content that includes apple, apples, michigan, & MI as keywords? Am I on the right track? Any advice of where to move on from here?

I'm a designer, dammit, not an optimizer!!! Plz help.

While were at it, can someone post a link to, or take a couple minutes to explain, a basic glossary of SEO terms/concepts/tools? (ie. PR, backlinks, doorway pages)

Bro

Hey Bro,

I am looking for the exact same glossary, if one is found on my post I will post it on yours or vice versa. I cannot help you with the other question you have, because I am in the same boat. Trying to figure this all out.

Good questions,
Chad

Hi Folks,

A good glossary of SEO terms can be had here

It's often good practice to try for a domain name that is as close to the company (physical) trading name as you can to ensure brand consistency across your operating range.

The keyword choice would be quite selective because of the nature of the business and should contain likely search terms potential buyers would type into a SE.

Your right on the money with the idea of using keywords in your meta tags that are reflected in your page content text, the ratio of keyword/content text is important to engines.

FYI: Don't neglect the title tag, include some keywords here too as the title tag is a big draw to a lot of engines.

Just remember to keep your content relevant, keyword rich, and informative to your sites views (and potential customers).

Hope this helps, ATB
