Page rank?

What does pr2, pr4, pr0 etc mean? Where do you find what a page rank for a given page is?

The PR value of a page is one way that Google measures the "importance" of that web page. PPR 0 is the lowest, and PR 10 is the highest.

The easiest way to find out is to install the Google toolbar on your browser. You'll be able to see it easily then.

Just remember... PR alone is by no means a good measure of a web sites relevance or importance. It's just an arbitrary measurement from Googles calculations.

Also keep in mind that the number you see in the toolbar is stale and obsolete as soon as it is updated. Plus it also is only a rounded number and not the exact PR of any given web page.

I heard they did the "Google Shuffle" whatever that is, that they do periodically. time4fishing.com was 1,2,or 3 with the phrase "(any USA seaport city) saltwater fishing charter boats", and we have lost a lot of them over the last six months. We are working to regain our status...

They re-tool it pretty much constantly, but releases are made whenever they feel like it. They have probably changed a few things around, they always do.

This is one of the biggest SEO traps out there... Page Rank != SERP position. The methods to get page rank can help with the SERP's but it is not the same thing. PR 0 sites can out-rank PR 5 sites if they've done it the right way. What is the right way? That's a very closely guarded secret of Google, and it's constantly changing to keep us all on our toes. Us "mere mortals" will never know.

Arrow

Also keep in mind that PR is no longer a serious measurement of quality of a web site, there are lot of other things that u should look for, specially the content.

PR used to be important and was one of factor of deciding your ranking but ppl hav started misusing it and have break it's algorithm so now it's not given that importance. better try to get relevant backlinks for your site and update contents regularly thats all and of importance.

I've read in several places that PR _used_ to be important, that PR is just _one_ of many factors, and so on. Here's what I'm wondering... does PR still mean anything at all?

IMO, page rank means little...it is/was mostly based on how many other (higher) ranked sites linked to back to the site in question...

As others have said and is always the case...the three most important things for a successful web site are content, content and content...presentation and navigation are 4th and 5th...

Other than a few SEO musts...you can't go wrong using Google's webmaster tools for tweaking your site's optimization...

Be sure to use a sitemap and submit it to Google...

An SEO tip:

<title>your pages</title> but more importantly...title your pages using the same (keywords) text that is the subject of the page/site and that also appear in the <h1>tags</h1> (only use one set of "heading 1" tags per page)

If you do the above you will see remarkably fast results after you submit your site to the search engines and search for the "text" (keywords) mentioned above...

PR Does still mean something, but overall it's a measurement of someone else's opinion of how many inbound links to your site were worth counting whenever the last public update happened.

The biggest thing that you need to remember is PR != visitors. And what would we all prefer? Higher page rank, or more visitors? I know my answer...

I would also add that PR is calculated based on the number and PR of pages that links to your site or page. So, it's important to have links from page with high PR, if you want to increase PR of your site.
