I've often heard that a single link from a PR 7 page can boost another page's PR from 0 to 5; and that 4-5 PR 4 links can raise a page to PR 3.
Does anybody have examples of how many and what PR pages are required to boost a PR0 page to let's say PR5? Thanks as always! |

I don't think there's a set equation to it. Well not that we know of (Google isn't sharing).
No matter how many links we get to http://www.drugs.com we can't get over PR6. If I were you, I'd stop looking at the PR of your page and concentrate on other SEO. The toolbar PR only gets updated 4 times a year and by the time it gets to the toolbar, it's usually out of date.

You also have to remember that PR is diluted by every link on the page. So a PR 7 can get you to PR 5 or fail to get you to a PR1 if there are too many links on the page diluting the PR it sends out. There is no way to calculate it without knowing thousands of variables.
And Noodles23 is right about PR. And to add that to that a link from a high PR page that is off topic is worth less then from a lower PR page that is on-topic. Go seek relevant links instead of chasing PR. You'll be much more successful that way. |

Thanks guys.
TBH. I knew most of the points you covered anyway. I just wondered if anyone had any practical examples/figures. I guess I'll just have to try it out myself! Thanks again! |

Think of PR as exponential or logarithmic
One thing to remember is that the PR scale is not 1:1. I.e., it is harder to get to a 2 from a 1 than it is to get to a 1 from a zero. It is much harder to get from a 6 to a 7 than it is to get from a 5 to a 6. Think exponential. An analogy I use is the Richter Scale. A 4 is worse than a 3, but a 5 is many times worse than a 4, etc.
Also, focus on getting links directly to your resource pages just as much as you focus on your home page. Drugs.com has a wealth of useful information. You could get hundreds if not thousands of solid links just to your Medical Encyclopedia alone. I would start with the pages at the leaf end of your document tree and get links to those individual pages, like your Heroin overdose page. There are lots of sites that would link to that specific page. Eventually you will get over the hump to 7. Getting to 8 will be that much harder. C. J. |

Unfortunately it was never in-date :P The toolbar PR and the PageRank used to rank sites are NOT the same thing. The toolbar PR is worthless and almost everyone who worries about fails to achieve true success. Forget about PR and work on rankings... that is where the money is.
