Paid SEO??

I am trying to increase traffic for my website and have been looking into SEO/SEM companies. Any suggestions? Should I be paying someone for this or can I do it myself. The quote are all over the ballpark.

If you have time and patience you yourself can work for SEO and can get your site up.
No need to employ anyone or spending.
Just read SEO articles and try to get relevant backlinks and update content regularly that's all.

SEO is not for the amateurs

SE Ranking is highly competitive these days. No place for do-it-yourselfers... Even automating most site generation tasks, you need months to get some decent rankings.
If you check google for Website Promotion Campaigns you will find us first among 500,000 competitors...

Obviously take posts like this with a grain of salt. Just registered only to promote his/her service. This is why the SEO industry is really shady, because there are a lot of shady tactics to try to get clients.

Best thing to do is if you feel you can get a ROI on hiring it out, then do research and ask for client lists and call their client list. Don't listen to people that just registered on the forums to post about their services as they don't have your best intentions in mind. They come and go on the forums like their companies that they try to run.

If you got the money in thousands of $$ you can hire a SEO company and if your with low budget then its better to do it on ur own, but either ways i would recommend do it by your self even if you have lot of money to throw around.

Yeah, you know better about your site and your niche, so better do some research of your competitor sites and try to figure out what they have did for better ranking. Apply them with a pinch of salt for your site....
SEO is not that easy but really it's not much difficult if you do it by your heart....

It could. I mean I SEO all of my websites just because I know how. With a bit of research you could do the same within just about the same amount of time that a SEO firm could do when you pay them: lets say a couple hundred dollars. I just suggest doing it yourself, read up a bit maybe and than you should be fine.

SEO has become too complicated in the past 1 year

If you are targeting SEO yourself, then you should first concentrate on less-competitive keywords.

This will increase your chances of scoring higher rankings and getting some decent traffic.

If you are targeting highly competitive keywords, then you will have to take help from some SEO expert/company.

In case your keywords are less-competitive, then you can consider doing optimization yourself.

No one, SEO firm or not, can guarantee results.

That being said, SEO companies have the time, trained personelle, and resources to get you great results. If you know what you're doing and you have the time to do, then by all means do it yourself... but an amateur won't beat someone who does it for a living.

Two companies I would recommend:
  • Fathom SEO (based in Cleveland, OH)
  • Imaginary Landscape (based in Chicago, IL)

One thing you should realize... SEO companies will make the case that PPC ads, email marketing, and other online press is better for your company - and it may be the case. It all comes down to sales...

I beg to differ

Getupdated can guarentee it, infact thats how they work - unless they produce results you don't pay. And its not a small family buisness or a shady 1 man operation - They have over 300 employees and are the main sponsor of the SEO conference in new york this year.

I was going to hire someone to help with the SEO for my site. I consulted a company and was quoted $6,000. Never in my life would I think it would cost that much.
