Penalizing for too many keywords in the URL

We use item titles to create the URLs on our site. However, those titles sometimes contain multiples of the same word, though not consecutively. Will Google consider this keyword stuffing and penalize us for it?

No. But it won't help you either, though.

URL has several fields, all differently valued

In google:

Domain : keywords are valuable
Subdomain: keywords are valuable
Directory: keywords are NOT valuable
File: keywords are NOT valuable

I have stats to support this statement, collected by my Algo Cracker software.

Keywords in title tags could be more significant, also consider using meta tag.

Keywords anywhere in the URL have value and should be used where appropriate. Not only does Google weight them in the URLs, including directory names and file names, but it also affects the potential anchor text of incoming links,

It is definitely better to remove the repeated word. Someone may report your web site as spamming one.

They can report it but it won't mean you'll get in trouble. Repeating a word many times looks stupid and turns users off to your site. But unless it is excessive, or done in a clearly black hat way (e.g. invisible text), it won't get you banned.

Interesting. I hadnt heard this before. I'll look at your site.

Does google recognise keywords in a URL if they have no space, eg. www.keywordOTHERWORD.com. Is it better to hyphenate, e.g www.keyword-OTHERWORD.com.

Depends on how many times does the word repeats itself within the Title - if it occurs more than what it necessary then it might raise some red flags in Google.

Can u show us a sample title of your site so that we can have a look at it?

The worst they would do is devalue the repeated keywords to the point where repeating it is counter productive. And quantity is not really a good method to decide if something is spammy. There are plenty of cases where a word my be repeated and it makes perfect sense for the title of a web page.

Isn't the "inurl:" command also something to take into consideration since it will retrieve indexed URLs with the keyword(s) that were assigned the value in the search?

dominoman suggest to hyphenate, is that good? actually one of my main sites the domain is hyphenated keywords, but some people say the domain loses value, what is your opinion?

That's a myth. Hyphens are very good for SEO as they make clear keyword delimiters.
