I went through quite a few online tutorials for SEO. I have very carefully selected my keywords and have also included them in the 'title' tag. Yet the site lists on page 4.
http://www.treasurejewelry.com/ If you see the keywords, the very key keywords are listed in title of the index page and every other page as well. Treasure Jewelry.com Cowrie Choker, Bone Choker, Cowrie Shell, African Jewelry Any ideas/help on bringing the site listing up? Thanks Last edited by bombaywala : August 5th, 2004 at 04:56 PM. |

page 4 isnt bad, if i was you now id get a few people to type in your keywords in google and look for your page and click through, this may help a bit but not a lot

Is there a better way to improve the site listing. I have gone through lot of terminology, PR, Backlinks, etc etc... Any idea what this is all about? |

Backlinks mean the number of inbound links to your website eg: I could put a link to your site from http://www.skyrocket.com.au and that would be one backlink. The search engines view back links as a 'vote of confidence' in your site - especially if the linking site has a high PR or PageRank. My site is PR4 which is not bad but if someone like Microsoft was to link to your site with a PR8 (or whatever they are) then you would get a boost in the Google rankings. You have no back links at all yet showing up according to Google. You have a few from Altavista and MSN and a couple of others (looks like posts to this forum and others). You need to start a link-building campaign. You could also cut out a ton of code soup under the bonnet - what is all that duplicated commented stuff doing there?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Really helpful. Any ideas on how to go about doing a link exchange campaign. The problem is, my client does not want to see any other links on this website. So who would put the link of my website if I don't put theirs? |

Yes - that's the big question. There are many websites around that will 'help' you with link-building. Just Google about and see what you can find. There are people that work like those dating/match-making websites - they find and recommend other websites that are looking for reciprocal links. You can ask friends, colleagues, affiliates - anyone on your network. The other thing is build a fantastic website full of ultra-useful content. You will find (hopefully) that people will link to you as if to say: "now THIS is an example of the sort of website that does it right..." Don't look at link-farms though. Apparently that is an express train to getting your site banned with some of the search engines.

if you dont want peoples links on your site then perhaps you could pay to place links on theirs?

you have nothing but keywords in your title. search engines can easily detect the page is designed for search engines, not for users. this may hurt your ranking too.
