PHP or HTML extension?
Hi folks,
I have a website and use the .php extension for most pages (because I parse RSS feeds and use lots of db calls). I include a standard header file into each page and the meta tags and title info are stocked with the relevant page specific data variables. I assume crawlers 'see' the pages like we do on a 'view source' look. A URL search sees me listed in Yahoo, MSN and a few others (not Google, but reading other posts I've decided not to panic about that yet) so does that mean things are going OK? Is this a correct assumption or am I way off the mark? Thanks in advance for your input. |

The search engines do see the site, as you would when you do a view souce.
The only thing that would worry me about a stock header with the meta tags would be to ask if the meta tags change (such as keywords). If they don't change, you are less likely to place for secondary terms. In some instances you can draw more traffic from those seconday terms than in a mega compeitive term market. You are right in your thinking though ![]() |

Thanks Gnome101,
The meta tags do change depending on the page the header is called to, so a relevant title, meta description and keyword tag is included on a page specific basis. Thanks again for your input, looks like I might be on the right track ![]() |

Absolutely...the only thing to be concerned with on dynamic sites, are long urls...provided your urls arent' deeper than a couple of steps, you should be fine, otherwise, you may consider a mod rewrite.
hope that helps!

Thanks, I agree. My site links are crawled successfully and it's always worth checking with an SEO tool to make sure they can be followed (if your robots.txt permits, ofcourse) |
