Popup and seo - Good or bad??

Hello.. I wanted to ask if this would be a good idea, or not.

My new site im building has some products that will have a separate link within the descriptions, such as Ingredients, size charts etc.....

Each of these links will have a separate page made up with the details within. And each one will be a popup using a popup.js script

For example here is a link(url removed as its not ddne)

<a href="/#####" target="newWin" class="style1" onclick="popUp(this.href,'console',550,430);return false;">Coochy Cream Ingredients</a>

My main question is..... In this new page(popup) should I include the products name at top, linked to the actual product page. Perhaps even put the title in <H1>

thank you for your time...

Search engines can't get to the pop up so it doesn't matter.

IMO, the three most important things for SEO are <Title>,<H1> and content text/keywords...

And they should all have the same basic verbiage... but they should all be independent of one another...i.e., don't use "h1" tags in your "title" set

Use one and only one set of "h1" tags per page (near the top just above your content)

use these three elements correctly and once your page is submitted...searches for your "content text/keywords" will return your pages at or near the top in a very short time...often less than a week on some engines...!

SE should be able to get to the pop-up links if they are linked like that, no? -
they just won't pop-up..

In those sort of cases, I would make sure that you have a link back to the site if the page hasn't been opened with JavaScript - eliminating orphan pages.

Agree with tj about the title, h1 an content though....

Thanks all for all the replies...... i put Denied in robot.txt to these

Question though.... instead of having to deny each .html file..... can I just deny the main folder? and this would keep the inside folders within it denied also.

Thanks

Could you not put the pages that are going to be popped into a separate directory,
then just deny that directory?

Are you sure you really want to deny robot access to this content anyway?

The diectory im putting them in is called popinformation and within that are other folders that pertain to the individual sections of pages.

These pop ups are just for instance, size charts, or ingredients to massage products etc.

So i wasnt sure how much influence they would have in the SEO world for my site...... or as some said above, could possibly hurt also.

i originally had planned on making the pop up pages show the title of the product, in h1 linked back to the product...and in the footer our company name with a link to our domain name.

After hearing this may not be the best idea, i just decided to deny these popups from the engines all together. Whether that is the best decision or not, im not sure..... but i certainly didn't want to take any chances.

I take it you have a robots.txt file?

then place this in tha file
disallow: /popinformation/

Then all the files in that directory are then blocked from being accessed.

Also the meta keyword tag is worth absolutely nothing due to massive spamming of it in the past.

If they do decide that these have SE value and you want them in the SERP's provide the meta description instead.

Blocking them is good if they offer no value to your SERPs but you wont hurt your site if they are kept in.
