I don't think google checks keywords. I often find that when I search for my page in google, that it can only find words that are actually in the body... I'm not sure if that is the case for all pages, but it is with mine..?
Anyway, I don't think page rank has to do with the keywords. When I visit pages, the page rank appears, even when I haven't been searching for anything. And also, if I have been typing in keywords for my page, and go to it, it doesn't come up with the page rank. I think it may have something to do with popularity or someone from google ranking it manually. I'm not sure, but I don't think it has to do too much with keywords. |

I think there is a little confusion about what 'keywords' means in this thread, let me try and clear this up:
Google ignores content in the 'meta keywords' tag. When people in SEO talk about 'keywords' they mean the words you want your page to be found for when people search on search engines like Google. If you want to target certain 'keywords' you need to find a nice way of mentioning them several times in the visible text on your page. Page Rank has to do with the number of links you get to your website, how popular the websites linking to you are, and what sites you link out to. Having a high Page Rank means that you have a better chance of being higher up the search results if you have the same keywords as a competitors website. HTH Paul |

Sorry
Yeah sorry. When I was talking about searching in Google, I meant it ignores META keywords. When I was talking about the PR I was talking about the keywords in the body.
I guess I kinda worded it wrong Anyway, I've never seen the page rank influenced by any keywords. I'm not sure if Google has already documented how the page rank works, but I would expect that they wouldn't, so that people don't try to exploit it. I think Page Rank has something to do with the popularity of a site, but I think it is only based on info Google has on their servers, not the info it retreives from other servers, re: hits, etc. Feel free to beleive what you want, but the Page Rank isn't the real measure of how great a site is, so you shouldn't spend too much time messing around with your site so it'll come up on search engines - that's just vanity. Getting into affiliations, web rings and lists of links on other pages are much better, because real people actually rate your site. |
