Subdomains are useful when they provide an unque information about service, product or anything else. Thinko fthem as a separate subsites that cover a part of your business. They are useless if they cover the same topics with a very few different keywords.

Subdomains are considered a separate site, so from Google's point of view the short answer is that Yes - they are worth it.
If you are changing a few words only then Google will consider that you are creating auto pages from a database and will devalue the content. So long as it is sufficiently different they will still index it and show it in SERPS, but Google is very good at spotting generated pages and quite rightly assumes that if there are a large number of them they are likely to be of less value to a customer. The best way around this is to make sure each page has genuine useful content specific to that area. You could d that with news feeds, e.g. a Queens RSS feed, or even by adding a "comments" facility. That way your visitors will do the work for you and give you lots of nice search engine rich friendly. Hope that helps.

I agree, you must make sure that your new subdomain has an entirely unique content, otherwise there is a great tendency that this might happen again.

Try to modify the description as well, if just a copy paste of the original site with just the name of the location changed, then yes that may be considered duplicate content.

instead of subdomain use a folder for each area, ex.
nycpcrepair.com/queens/ the advantage is that instead of having a site for each area of the city ( and a subdomain is a different site) your site nycpcrepair.com will be content rich. I agree that you should have unique content on each folder, perhaps rss feeds or something. |
