ranking DECREASING in Google
Hi.
Here's the deal, I've been working hard at optimizing our site for search engines...however, through all the work, we have managed to slide downward in google instead of upward. I have read countless pages on optimization, and am doing what I can. here's a link to my site...if you type our company name itself into google, it doesn't come up till page 12!!! http://www.graphixplus.com I'm very open to suggestion right now. Thanks in advance. |

Get a few PR4+ links in the site with your exact company name if that's what you need, and make sure they link to the exact same URL. But I'd think it's not too important to optimise for your own company name in search engines but then again, I do not know whether you have a market who know your company name.

I only used the company name as an example of our search engine ranking...you can just imagine how low it is based on keywords (we're in a pretty large industry)
My main concern is any reason why it would have slipped back in google despite my optimization efforts. Any thoughts?? |

Many reasons are possible. Did you change the homepage to a frameset since your rank was high? Framesets rarely rank well. That's probably why your keyword ranking isn't too great also.

Where do you read about SEO?
Your site has: - Frame - Dynamic content (PHP) Some SEs do not like that ... ![]() |

Where do you read about SEO HireHost?
SEs, or at least Google just don't like long query strings. His home page has nothing which I'd say needs optimising. Only the frames are a problem, AFAIC. |

I realize that frames and se's don't typically get along that well...i have done research all over the place to optimize my framed site for search bots to read.
I also realize dynamic content isn't the best for se's...has anyone done the mod_rewrites for apache? I have the documentation, I'm just not sure how much trouble it really is to do the mods. Any tips? |

Well, optimise the frames all you want but I'm sure it would be more simple and much more effective just to de-frame the pages.
I've done mod_rewrites. You need to understand regular expressions to do so though, and be able to write them: http://www.google.com/search?q=regular+expression Then the mod_rewrite syntax, which is relatively simple: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_rewrite.html It's easy then. Just a line per rule in a .htaccess file. Last edited by Crabby : January 7th, 2005 at 12:18 PM. |

Is it possible that you have less people linking to your site, since that is how Google's PankRank system works? Or that another compeditor has more links. Google is the most popular search engine, so naturally your going to want to focus on Google, Yahoo! doesn't, in my opinion, play the game well, since you pay your way up the ranking ladder.
To you, I give my humble opinion... Hope it's useful. |

Also if may not have anything to do with your site specifically but many sites lost PR during this last update. Looks like google is upping the qualifications necessary for higher page rank.
