I am not sure how you took my response it was in no way ment to be negitive or a "smart arse". I was responding to the origional person who started this topic scottishparis who asked;

"Should I be bothered about having an robots.txt file on my server or is it just a complete waste of time?"

I really did just add a robots.txt file because I got tired of seeing 404 errors in my log file...
