Search Engines - The all-in-one thread on where to submit
Since there isn't a pinned topic yet on search engines and their submission pages, I figured we could turn this into one.
Please post in this thread names of worthwhile search engines and links to their site submission pages, and if possible, give an idea of their popularity, and any other relevant data. I'll add the names and links to this post once posted. Below, all the places where you should get yourself listed. http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl Calls for little explanation, we all know Google. According to comScore Media Metrix, Google's share of the search pie in the US in June 2005 was 36.5%. Yahoo http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request The second runner up that has since its arrival on the search engine market swallowed other well-known engines such as Altavista, AllTheWeb and Overture. Share 30.5%. Also remember the Yahoo Directory, listings are free for non-commercial sites. MSN http://beta.search.msn.co.uk/docs/submit.aspx With 15.5% of the market, MSN offers its search throughout its portals and is likely around to stay for good, if the recent talks about increased emphasis on search technology are an indication. AOL Help me out here with the URL? AOL has 9.9% of the pie, their results are featured at Teoma, Ask Jeeves, Excite and a bunch of others across the network. Dmoz - Open Directory http://dmoz.org/add.html The famous biggest human maintained directory of all. Find your category and submit your site. Google, Altavista and AOL among others use their index for providing results. Not a search engine as such, but a major search engine resource. This post lists a bunch of additional search engines and directories where you may submit your sites if you're in the mood to do so. If you don't, you probably won't miss out on too much traffic, but hey - even that 0.01% of one billion people online is still a whole lot of people.
![]() Zeal http://www.zeal.com/ A zealously maintained directory offering free listings for non-commercial sites. ExactSeek http://www.exactseek.com/add.html No experience on this one. Requires you to confirm the submission over e-mail. A part of the Jaydes network. SearchSight http://searchsight.com/submit.htm No prior experience. Requires your e-mail address. ScrubTheWeb http://www.scrubtheweb.com/addurl.html Sounds familiar, I guess it's been around for a while. E-mail confirmation of submission required. TowerSearch http://www.towersearch.com/addurl.php No prior experience. Rotates results, thereby giving you an occasional top rank for even the most common keywords. Gets you signed up to a newsletter. SearchHippo http://www.searchhippo.com/addlink.php No prior experience. Requires you to register an account that can be used later on to update your listings. Draze http://www.draze.com/support/submit.html No prior experience. Aside adding to their engine, they promise to add your site to "over 1,000 search engines, FFAs, message boards and directories". Requires you to link back to them. SearchHound http://www.searchhound.com/submit.asp No prior experience. Asks for e-mail address.ö Last edited by CodeWallah : August 31st, 2005 at 02:21 AM.
