My guess for this is that there's a LOT of people linking to Microsofts home page using their full URL. This means that they'll rank well for the "http://" part of the URL because it's in so many of their back-link texts.
There could very easily be a more advanced reason for it out there... anyone else got any ideas? |

I clicked a link in a forum that was supposed to be a video on Google but I got the Microsoft home page instead and the link was http://http://video.google.com...... so FireFox just searched for http:// and that's how I found this, if anyone was wondering.
Your idea makes sense, I just thought it odd that Google is the only search engine that has results for it. |

It's interesting. I think it's ignoring :// and just searching for http (as that returns the same result). I don't think google uses protocol as a keyword, so maybe they have lots of backlinks to microsoft.com that include http
