Search Strategy

Does anyone know any good websites on optimising your site for rankings in search engines, not only Google but alot of the others aswell.

Also as part of my stats on my website there is a "top search string"

I noticed on here there is a lot of Google info, getting links to your site and stuff like that, but not all search engines work that way and it would be good to get a little way across a lot of information.

Yep, I always say optimize for Google first and the others will fall into place. This has always proven true for my sites.

i doubt there is any other search engine which has more precise ranking algorhytm than googles... which includes defined rules you can follow in search engine wars, in oppose to yahoo for instance which has algorhytm combined with toolbar... you cannot optimize people to come to your site with toolbar enabled, right? so you cannot get all with some magic stuff like 'get 10000 links, put a sugar on it and bang! you are SE God everywhere'

You are right vinyl

Only google has the most logical ranking algorithm. Moreover it also gives you more traffic than any other search engine. I have seen sites with first page ranking at both google and yahoo getting almost 10 times traffic from google than yahoo. All of them are industry specific sites and it seems that google gives more serious targetted traffic.

The only people who know for sure what Google's algorithm consists of is the people at Google.

My guess is they have tens of thousands of criteria they use for ranking sites, not hundreds.

More number of criteria means more response time

Most of the ranking factors are counted at the run time and they are not stored like pagerank and backlinks. So the more number of these factors means more response time which google is always trying to avoid. Because one of the factors in their success is also fast response time. The famous google bombing has been successful so many time just because of that extra CPU cycle required to crosscheck link text with the page text.

Some theorize that the "Florida Update" was Google's first shot at TSPR, topic sensitive page rank. The results were horible though, and they quickly "pulled back" the algo chages and restored peace and order in Google land
