SEO benefits of having a blog in your domain!

This has been stirring in my grey matter for some time; your opinions would be most appreciated.

If your blog is related to your business it is surely it better to have (URL address blocked: See forum rules)/blog/ from an SEO point of view?

Or, is it just as good to have your blog independent on a separate domain with a back link?

I have had conflicting advice on this, one party says ‘have it separate with a back link’ and the other says ‘it must be within your company site for maximum benefit’.

I ask this as I know it is very easy to setup with blogger, or wordpress with a new domain but less easy to get a blog in your domain. From a non-technical persons point of view I want my blog to be as effective as possible but don’t really know where to start with installing blog software into my domain/server. Obviously, I can pay someone to sort it out but there is no point in doing that if the benefit is minimal.

Any ideas would be great.

Keep it on your domain. People think they're being sneaky or smart by separating it but it really doesn't do them any good. Put it on your site and fill it with great content. It will naturally attract good links which is good for your blog and your site as a whole.

put it on you domain like /blog/ or blog.domain.com, one way of informing product updates and announcement thus not creating craps on your main business site.

another way could be to use the joomla style blog that shows every content in your site in blog format . This way you dont need to write anything exclusively for the blog
