SEO friendly code
Hey All-
I am replacing the old designer on a project- where the client currently has a flash site that she thinks is pretty cutting edge. Anyway, she has been working with SEO folks who now I’m working with in improving hits on her site. I am told that search engines cannot read flash files and its best if I hard code. Well, hard coding will take away some of the dynamic stuff she likes in site- but getting site in front of people is the main goal . . . In any case I am looking for alternatives in menu design similar to what I have now. Can you just look at below link and the code behind the drop down menu and let me know if it wont negatively affect the spiders as they search links, etc. http://www.dhtmlcentral.com/script/script.asp?id=25 thanks. |

use javascript for flyout menu. if you really want to use flash, don't put it on the home page.

For SEO you should try to use natural links with CSS dropdowns.
Check this out: http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic/index.htm Javascript just adds to the size of the page, increases page load time, etc. Flash is ok, but needs to be used only as a cosmetic addition to an already well coded site (not a functional part like navigation). I would suggest a size of no more than 1/4 page. |

links should not be flash if you want it to be caught by spiders and search engines of the like.
try using unordered lists with CSS to come up with a great looking menu. CSS has alot of different abilites to change the way lists look. Flash is good, but I still think there's too much hype with it. Hope this helps. |
