Articles do help...provided it's relevent and quality content. You could have mass quantities of articles, but I'd put emphasis on quality over quantity.

Check out SEO Chat. There are loads of good articles there on SEO, and a forum.

Just keep one thing in mind;
develop for the end user...not the search engines.
