Server location and Google rankings?

Hello guys! I am just wondering if hosting server location can have a negative impact on Google website ranking positions? If, for example, my forum is planned to be in the Russian language with .com domain extension and hosted on the US server? I am wondering if a website will be found by Russian requests in google.com.ua and google.com.ru searching engines? What are your opinions about this? Thanks in advance!

The TLD domain certainly has an impact on the Google ranking positions. For example in the UK playhard.co.uk will rank higher than playhard.com - all other things being equal. This makes sense as most people in the UK searching would prefer to find a UK site than an American one. Of course if the .com site was genuinely a better match it should rank above the local one - but the TLD certainly makes a difference to the position in the SERPS.

As a result its worth you creating a .com.ru site and hosting it in Russia if possible. Is there any reason why you wouldn't?

Another factor is that if you targeting Russian visitors they are likely to type .com.ru as the domain name, regardless of what you tell them is the domain. That's another good reason to always have a local domain if possible.

You can do geo-targeting regardless of your server location where it is because you're going to display the information on the site for specific country and using webmaster Central you can inform Google that your site is specifically aimed to a specific country.

Server and Server location both are the important factors for search engines. If your business is located in uk then it is better to have uk server location.
