Send a message via ICQ to fcolor
You need to understand the way Search engines work and to know more about web surfers' behaviour.

So it is not necessary to know the programming side of it such as asp, php, coldfusion, jsp etc. And I guess it involves talking to clients about how they can make their sites to be popular and rated highly by the seach engines using the above-mentioned topics like usability, accessibility, proper site design practice and security etc. Thanks.

if you are targetting to be big time talking to clients then you should have those php, asp or web usability skills, studying search engine algorithm and applying it to a site using the above mentioned skills and you are set to go.

Yes, you are right, thanks.

I have seen many vacancies for SEOs with no mention of any programming skills as well. So your answer makes sense to me now.

Trust me - you need server side skills among others into boot - how are you going to cope with an e-commerce project that is built in php if you are not aware of the language - I do know some excellent Sales guys who are geared up on SEO and to listen to them you would think they had all the makings of talented optimisers -- truth be told they wouldn't know how to code a simple html page never mind re-work a database-driven content management site to allow for friendlier search engine validated code.

Your reply is interesting and insightful, thanks a lot. After all only sales skills are not enough someone has to do the programming as well, very true.
