To comma or not to comma
What is the school of thought here when keywording your site?
I personally don't use a comma to seperate my keywords and I can't rememmber why or the logic behind it. Just a habit I seem to have fallen into.. When keywording I use the following <meta name="keywords" content="keyword1 keyword2 keyword3"> Should I be using? <meta name="keywords" content="keyword1 , keyword2 , keyword3"> Any thoughts on the pros and cons? |

Hi Phil,
I've been reading some articles on this and come to the conclusion that it's a personal preference thing. As far as I can make out, the engines that still look at and use meta keywords read a comma as a space and so no one method weighs more than the other. http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/article.php/2167931 http://www.grantasticdesigns.com/metatagtips.html http://www.anisha.co.uk/Articles/metatags-keywords-commas.php ATB Last edited by Hombre : April 18th, 2006 at 08:31 AM. I believe the proper syntax is separated by a comma. How else would you have a multi-word keyword?

True - though my reasoning is coming back to me, but not seperate by a comma you are not fixing the order of your multi-word keyword? For instance: Batemans Bay Real Estate , Batemans Bay , Real Estate Though by not seperating: Batemans Bay Real Estate I though that it would then not be limited to the multi-word as defined by you but it would find any instance of those words in a search term, in any order. May start doing a bit more looking into it. |

I believe that the standard called for comma-seperated. That's good enough reason to do it.
