Too many ads - a negative?

Hello all,

Not sure if this is operate here so sorry mods!

This is my site: http://www.shadystudent.co.uk

I am tempted to add more ads to our site (8 of us!!!), but is too many ads really a bad thing since they generate a load of money!!! Do you think ads is appropriate for the site above? Our audience is students.

There are more ads on other pages.

Thanks all, and i appreciate any feedback.

My opinion is that too many ads take away from the site. I, personally, hate sites with too many ads, and will generally find other sites that peak my interest, if I happen across a site with too many ads. I understand that the majority of people think about money, and I know ads help generate "loads of money!!!", but why push your lust for money onto people that want to enjoy a site?

As for the site you posted, I don't see too many, but there doesn't appear to be too much on the site itself for the ads to take away from.

i agree ... i do not personally stay long on sites that are over loaded with ads.

the amount of ads in proportion to the size of the site and appropriate to the site's content are ok imo.

For a business site ads can detract from the professional aspect of it. Alot of flashy ads just make it worse. For a personal site they can be fine but again too many will increase bounce rates drastically. Use Google adsense in moderation, they are clean ads and generally no flashy trash. They can be easily customized so that they fit your site and tend to work very well.

If your creating a site that you want to be something, you want to take places, you might want to consider cutting the ads down and freshening up the site with more content.

I wouldn't stay on a site that has too many ads too!

But there is a trade-off between how many ads to add and content!!! (for me anyway!) Its hard to get the balance right...i'll guess it...that will work! Also i keep thinking, because i am greedy, that the more ads that i have the more likely i will make profit!

Okay...i am going to work on the content. Then add a few relevant ads. Hopefully it will look ok. Thanks for the help guys!

Anything else i should consider, forgotten?

I have ads on my consultant site and they are placed always under any important information on the page - however they are coloured to fit the style of the site and don't detract from the look and feel of the page ++ If the person browsing is going to click on the ad then at least I am making something from what would have been another bounce fatality.
