Traffic generator services - Do they work

I've seen a few of these services that send your site lots of hits at a cent or two per hit. Sites like revisitors.com, wordlinx etc.

Obviously these are going to be very untargeted hits so probably have very low conversion rate. But is it worth it all the same?

There's two things to consider. You've got the first one, untargeted traffic. The second is fake traffic. A lot of these services (especially the cheap ones) will set up a bot to visit your site every X seconds. It looks like a hit, but it's faked. Easy to do with proxy servers to change IP's, and user agent ID's can be set in almost every language.

I'd suggest that if you want to try one, give it a go for a short time and have a maximum spend set. Some of them may actually be worth it, so if the hits are cheap enough it could be worth spending the $20-30 to see what comes of it.

Yes - the only way is to test these things.

Of course testing isnt easy - as its difficult to reliably measure where the traffic comes from.

I've found the traffic generators to be pretty useless personally - much as expected. If they really worked they would just sell their own services or affil schemes.

Yes personally I would stay away from them, never used them myself so don't take my word for it entirely but have spoken to quite a few people that have said they really are a waste of good money.

There probably are small percentage of them that actualy work and as previsouly stated if you really are intrigued then just set yourself a budget to see if a)you get many hits and b)the hits are converting into sales better than you had before.
