Updating Your Site Often

I'm beginning to believe that constantly updating your site with fresh content raises your rankings with the search engines? Does anyone have a viewpoint on this believe?

I've read that updated content keeps the bots returning to your site often, which is certainly something you'd want.

Yes, exactly There are basically two factors that determine when will the bots visit your site.

1) The page's importance (PageRank).
2) The page's content freshness (when was the last update).

The higher the PR and regular update of the content, the more frequent you will find the bots in your site.

Just updating is not enough, you should use google sitemap to inform google about your update, if you have blog you should ping your post regularly.

Yes, that's true. But I'd say nothing boosts your rank in search engines more than the linking of your site from other very popular sites..If you can get mentioned in some news or article site that itself has a high search engine rank - this will improve your rank too..

I have a friend whose site was mentioned on cnn travel news. Since then he gets hundreds of visitors a day from google search only..

In general, my opinion is your site rank is a complex result, and updating the content is mandatory not just to get a higher rank, but to keep your site visitors interested in the site. I wouldn't visit a site if I know it has nothing new I can read in it..

Of course updating your content frequently is costly - takes money and time - bit if you are not ready to do it, better don't start a site at all..

Chi

Well updating web pages with fresh content certainly helps in ranking well. The major search engine like Google ranks websites for these fresh and relevant updated content. Everytime during indexing, google sends a freshbot which is a SE spider which gathers updated information. So its very important to keep your website updated with fresh content.

hi,

content is the king and it should be fresh one. content should be changed in a regular pint of time and fresh content also attract crawler to crawl your site, so the crawler should be changed in particular point of time.

A blog needs to have frequent posts to maintain the interest of the readership. Your daily visitors will grow to expect to see at least one post per day. Many successful business oriented blogs have several daily entries. Some bloggers choose a less frequent timetable, of about three articles per week.

Updating is not so important for most of the bigest search engines, eccept for MSN, who practically replaced "Googles PageRank" with that atribut.

So only for MSN, constant (and regular) updating is realy important.
