Url help
Hello, I am new here so hello to everyone.
I look after my parents website, the site is hosted at my house and they bought their web site address from 123-reg.co.uk. The web address is forwarded to my static IP. I have noticed when you go from page to pge the URL never changes. i.e google.co.uk the help page would be google.co.uk/help.asp mine would just stay as google.co.uk but the page would change. As a result (i think) none of the other pages are being indexed, only the home page. Is it to do with the web forwarding? Is it to do with the way IIS is set up? The website folder construction? Any help would be good. Thanks |

Sounds like whatever service you are using to get your domain to point to your house is using frames to achieve the effect. Basically there is no way around it using that service. You will need to use one that actually points the domain to your server rather then using frames. I know there are quite a few out there so a quick Google search should give you options. |

Ok thankyou. With 123-reg you have the following options. Do you know which one I should be using to get what I want?
1. Framed web-forwarding to a single page If you select web-forwarding to a single page the destination URL can have a specific filename on the end (e.g. index.htm). 2. Non-framed web-forwarding to a single page This option is the same as above however the destination URL will always be displayed in the address bar of the browser. 3. Framed web-forwarding The destination URL will be replaced by (Your URL) 4. Non-framed web-forwarding The destination URL will remain in the browser's address bar. |

It is a VERY slim chance, but in case you were already using option 4 and the issue still occurs, you might try clearing the data in your web browser.
Really, that one depends on how web page is designed and probably not the culprit at all, but just in case it could possibly be a quick fix that takes ~1 minute. |

Option 4 is what you want, but in any case Google will still be indexing the content even the way it is set up now. It will follow the links in the frames (within the HTML source).

Thank all of you for your replies.
When I select Option 4 the Domain name is only used for the first page, Everytime you select a link to another page the URL changes from google.co.uk to http://MyIpAddress/boats/web%20Pages/contactus.asp? |

Do you have access to your DNS settings ? If so set the A Record to point to your IP. Than everything would be fine and you wouldn't have to use any redirect services. If you can't use the DNS features change the provider.

something else you can do to help with your SEO is to use a sitemap and submit it to Google...
If you visit Google's webmaster tools you can find tips and instructions on how to use a sitemap... but basically it tells a search bot what to index much the way a robots.txt files tells it what to ignore... good luck |

Do you think his site hasn't been indexed yet?

It seems he has not updated his name severs, if so you need to login to ur domain a/c and point your name severs to your web hosts DNS, if you dnt know these you can get them from your host.
