Very strange Google issue
Hey everyone,
I am not an SEO guy, but I am at a loss to why this is happening. I know enough to get my sites on google and the others and not have them be too bad off. All right here is the issue: When I go to google (more importantly my client does) there and types in his business name: gdc jewelry sometimes his site will show up (www.gdcjewerly.com) and sometimes, it doesn't at all. I have had different people across the country try and so far some have returned some results that were ... scary. One turned up a midget football league One turned up a jewish jewelry site One turned up inwestmoreland.com (which we know about these guys) So ... I ask, how do I get GDC Jewelry at the top in every term in every city? It just doesn't make any sense. Thank you everyone, Chad R. Smith

Hi Chad,
not an SEO gut myself but a couple of things i could suggest: add your url to google manually: Linky (http://www.google.com/addurl/) Add meta tags to your webpages Heres a link to how Google works (http://www.googleguide.com/google_works.html), might help. All the best. Displeaser ps dont know if its just me but theres no links above in what i posted, when i preview they show fine. Reply should show you the urls if they are not showing up for you either.

Actually you can't do much in this case if your users have Google personalized search enabled. I believe some of your testers have enabled personalized search and hence receiving different results. You might want to refer to the following link regarding this issue:
http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=26651&topic=9005 Personalized searching apart. You might also know that Google refreshes its index now and then. Therefore, the time that you started to test out the queries in the cities is also critical. Do you receive all the results from your testers at nearly the same time? Or it span over a period? Additionally, Google updates the index in terms of datacenters, so some of your testers might be querying from the slower DCs. One alternative solution to overcome this is to geotarget your site for your country. However, this is not 100% foolproof especially when users are not searching locally.. I have tried searching for gdc jewelry (without personalized search) in Singapore and your client's site turns up Number 1 as well ![]() |

Well thank you and that's good to know.
I didn't think about the personalized search. I guess it makes sense, but hmm. We ran the test at literally 5 minutes apart from one anohter and grand total took less than 10. So I was having everyone look at one time. Yes, some I am sure have the personalized, and some don't. I used IE for one (which didn't have personalized) and I got it fine. The other one was in FF and it returned fine, then literally right across the cubicle wall I had a designer try it and his showed up as westmoreland's one. So ... that's confusing. Good link, I will check it out, can anyone else think of something that I am missing? I have META tags and such, did I screw them up? Chad |
